Life and activies in downtown Oslo

During the course of a single day in Oslo, you can experience many different activities. Get down to the city center, where you can enjoy good food, live music, world-class museums, or relax in a sauna followed by a refreshing swim right by the Opera House.

You can stroll through the city from east to west, exploring charming neighborhoods, take a walk along one of the world's most beautiful waterfront promenades, or visit Deichman Bjørvika, which has been recognized as one of the world's most beautiful libraries.

If you make your way to Tøyen, taking a stroll in the Botanical Garden, the country's oldest and most beautiful botanical garden, is definitely worth your time. In this area, you can also discover vibrant and beautiful street art.

During the months of summer, you can take a ferry between the islands in the inner Oslo Fjord and experience idyllic coastal gems and fresh sea air. Pack your picnic basket and remember sunscreen and sunglasses.

Oslo is also surrounded by beautiful nature. Around the city center, you'll find Østmarka, Nordmarka, and Lillomarka. Here, you find hikes as short or as long as you like. You can swim, camp, or simply enjoy some leisurely hours in a hammock

Put on your comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, and follow the Akerselva River either upstream or downstream for a great introduction to the city. Here, you'll encounter both new architecture and historical buildings, as well as beautiful natural surroundings.

The culture and art of the capital

A visit to the city's two well-known sculpture parks, Vigeland Park and Ekeberg Park, is a must for art enthusiasts. The same goes for the Munch Museum, centrally located in the heart of Oslo.

If you're in Oslo, a trip to Bygdøy is a must. Here, you can experience the Viking Ship Museum, the Kon-Tiki Museum, and the Norwegian Folk Museum. If the weather is nice you can also find several good swimming opportunities at Huk.
